What Resume Writing Format to Use?

There are three basic resume writing formats for you to pick from and each has their streanght and weaknesses and they are the chronological, skills, or functional formats. Conventional wisdom says that the only one that is of standard value it the chronological format and although I agree there are times when the other formats work better, especially when you have things on your resume you would like to highlight or cover up for that matter.

Chronological Resume Writing Format

The sequential resume format is the most well-liked and one than most employers expect. It simply goes from section to section and lists entries from the latest towards latest. Such as in your Work Experience Section you would list the last job you had (or the job you currently have)  and the list the prior one beneath that and so on. Frequently only three entries are added unless there is a job that you held before that you may feel would strengthen your situation with the perspective employer or in case your Educational Experience is lacking and you wish to improve your Work Experience it is best to add more entries.

Skills Resume Writing Format

The skills resume format does not go by date but lists essentially the most relevant job that highlight the talents required for the job you're applying for. You should always use the Chronological format unless you've a reason not to as this format may bring up a flag to the potential employer. Such things as obtaining a job in a new field outside of your past work experience, having long gaps in work history or no work history whatsoever are possible reasons you could settle on a Skill Resume Format.

Functional Resume Format

This format is best used to spotlight skills which are relevant to a particular field of work. It's best useful to demonstrate advancement and achievement within a unique field of work.
